Intern/Trainee will have role in our Maintenance department. The intern/trainee will have 5 different phases, each one of these phases the participant will have a chance to learn skills and knowledge on the theoretical aspect of hospitality engineering and also put in practices these skills. Introduction to Hospitality Business in the Engineering Department: The participant will gain knowledge of - Troubleshooting on HVAC equipment, plumbing systems, electronic systems, all major appliances, pool equipment and other mechanical systems on campus. - Written records, tools and supplies in a neat and orderly manner. - General maintenance, the use of hand and power tools and the ability to understand mechanical systems. - Judgment and effective decision-making skills. Ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision required. - Organizational, customer service and communications skills Room Preventative Maintenance: The participant will also learn the deep maintenance techniques used by our hotel which include Air Conditioning duct cleaning, condenser coil cleaning and repairs, lighting troubleshooting, bathroom tile and grouting, tub jet cleaning and troubleshooting, wood paneling and furniture repair as well as wallpaper and painting repairs. All these skills will be taught by the members of the Room Preventive Maintenance team as well as the Engineering Supervisor. Engineering Mechanic Apprentice: The participant will learn the basics of soldering for the purposes of piping repair. Several training sessions as well as hands on soldering will be performed in the Engineering shop before any real repairs are performed on the field, all while following the safety procedures mandated by OSHA. After a desired level of skill is achieved the participant will transition into brazing training for the purpose of refrigeration piping repairs. This process requires hotter temperatures achieved by the burning of gas combinations and silver based braze material. Thermodynamic principles will be thoroughly explained and emphasized. Engineer leadership Project: The skills necessary will be learned by shadowing our Central Plant Mechanic and Chief Engineer. The intern will learn to perform an accurate daily central plant round and how to read the results in order to determine the health of the building’s central plant. During this process the participant will learn to identify the signs of correct pressures within the buildings systems, temperatures, heat transfers, motor controls and Variable Frequency Drive operations in order to catch potential problems before they happen. This proactive approach is imperative for a flawless operation of such a crucial part of building operations. This intricate system of cooling towers, chillers, booster pumps, boilers and variable frequency drives provide essential vital services to the entire building including hot and cold water distribution and pressures for a high rise, Air Handling Units and guest room Air conditioners for comfortable temperatures, electrical motors and their controlling devices to operate pumps.
